Signs you need brake service
Brakes almost always warn you before they get dangerous. Here's what the common warnings usually mean:
- Squealing. Many pads have a small metal tab that squeals when the pad gets thin. It's a reminder to get them checked soon.
- Grinding. The pad material is likely gone and metal is hitting the rotor. This damages the rotor quickly.
- A soft or spongy pedal. This can point to air or moisture in the brake fluid, a leak, or a problem in the master cylinder.
- Pulling to one side. A sticking caliper, a collapsed brake hose or uneven pad wear can make one side grab harder than the other.
- Shaking when you stop. Vibration in the pedal or steering wheel often comes from rotors that have worn unevenly.
- A warning light. The brake light can mean low fluid or a parking brake issue. The ABS light points to the anti-lock system, often a wheel speed sensor.
If you notice any of these, get the car checked. A brake problem rarely fixes itself, and waiting usually makes the repair bigger.
What to expect
Call or text us and tell us what you're hearing and feeling. Once the car is in, we inspect the whole brake system, not just the part that's making noise. You'll have an estimate within 48 hours, so you know the cost before any work starts.
Our inspection and repair rate is $120 per hour for general vehicles and $150 per hour for custom cars. Minor repairs are usually done in 24 to 48 hours, and most work is finished within a week.
Already bought pads or rotors? Bring them. We welcome customer-supplied parts. Our warranty covers new parts for 60 days or 3,000 miles, and labor for 60 days or 3,000 miles. If the brake work is part of an insurance claim, we can help with the paperwork.
