Signs you need radiator or cooling system service
Your cooling system moves heat out of the engine. When part of it fails, you'll usually see one of these signs:
- The temperature gauge climbs. If the needle rises above normal or a warning light comes on, the engine is running hotter than it should.
- A puddle under the car. Coolant is often green, orange, pink or blue and feels slightly slick. A drip near the front of the car is a common sign of a radiator or hose leak.
- A sweet smell. Coolant has a sweet odor when it leaks onto hot engine parts.
- Low coolant that keeps coming back. If you're adding coolant regularly, it's going somewhere, either leaking out or leaking inside the engine.
- Steam from under the hood. This usually means coolant is boiling or spraying on hot parts.
- Cold air from the heater. Low coolant or a bad thermostat can keep the heater from warming up.
Driving a car that's overheating can warp engine parts and damage head gaskets. If the gauge is climbing, get it checked before it becomes a much bigger repair.
What to expect
Tell us what you've noticed, whether the car has actually overheated, and how often you've been adding coolant. We pressure test the system to find where it's leaking, then check the thermostat, water pump and fans. You'll get an estimate within 48 hours.
Our inspection and repair rate is $120 per hour for general vehicles and $150 per hour for custom cars. Minor repairs are usually done in 24 to 48 hours, and most work is finished within a week.
You're welcome to supply your own parts. Our warranty covers new parts for 60 days or 3,000 miles, and labor for 60 days or 3,000 miles. If the cooling system damage is part of an insurance claim, we can help with the paperwork.
